AfDB Pledges Support for Food and Agro-Processors

The African Development Bank (AfDB) is committed to supporting food and agro-processors by fostering a favorable business environment and offering financial aid. The bank aims to bolster sectors with a competitive edge, such as the food processing industry, through initiatives like the establishment of Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZs) in select states. These zones will provide essential infrastructure, including water, roads, and power, to facilitate business operations.

Prof. Oyebanji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, the Senior Special Adviser to the AfDB President, emphasized the bank’s role in advocating for business owners and bridging the gap between them and the government.

Duro Kuteyi, the National President of the Association of Food and Agro Processors (AFAP), highlighted the challenges faced by small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) due to competition from larger industries and the exportation of raw materials. He urged the government to protect small businesses and promote local processing of raw materials to enhance value addition.
